Canadian Rockies Banff and Jasper: Athabasca Glacier September 2002

This pole was drilled into the ice to measure the depth of the glacier. On June 1st, the top of the pole was flush with the ice surface. The exposed portion of the pole reveals the amount of ice that has melted since then.
