Orlando Christmas: Airboat & Light Display - Day 3 (click

We
took an early morning and very chilly airboat ride with Boggy Creek Airboat
Adventures on Lake Toho for bird photography. Captain John was at the helm.
The kids were looking to capture noteworthy photos for the
Orange Audubon Photo Contest. They succeeded, but the rules of the contest are
strict and the 2 photos that Lauren took below would not be eligbile because
the first one contains a man-made object (the post that the kingfisher is
perched on) and the other contains a non-native species (the large snail that
the snail kite is trying to open). There were a lot of bald eagles - that’s a
juvenile bald eagle in the first photo below, and the adult bald eagle in the
second photo snagged a duck right out of the water!
Kingfishers
with a fish snack are in the first 2 photos below. Aptly named, the third photo
is a snail kite trying to open a snail. Note the blue tag on its leg which is
used for tracking because it is an endangered species. Wei-Shen takes one last
shot with his kids and Captain John at the end of the ride in the fourth photo
below.
After
the airboat ride we went to lunch at Mamak and then
relaxed at the condo before getting ready for the evening’s adventure.

The
building with the red and green lights on top is Wei-Shen’s condo building, The
Waverly.
Afterwards
we all walked to a nearby restaurant, Osphere, for
dinner. Li and Connie both had the fried red snapper – YUM!
