Banff Short Walks
After the long drive from Glacier National Park,
we stretched our legs in Banff on the Bankhead
Historical Loop (a short interpretive trail through an abandoned coal mining
town) and the C-Level Cirque (a short walk that passed by old coal mine shafts
and an overlook of Bow
Valley).
We also squeezed in a quick walk to the top
of Tunnel Mountain
which overlooks Bow Valley, Mt. Rundle, and the town of Banff.
On the one day that it rained, we took a
walk along Marble
Canyon - a narrow gorge
that deepened as the walk progressed. The trail criss-crossed the canyon
multiple times over bridges where you could look straight down into the canyon.
Interpretive signs explained how the gorge and its accompanying waterfalls were
formed by Tokumm Creek as it cut through the layers of rock over thousands of
years. Believe it or not, based on his minimal effort/maximum reward rating
system, this trail was Dad's favorite!
On our last day of the trip, we meandered
along the catwalks and waterfalls at Johnston
Canyon and visited the Banff Park
Museum.
