Banff Cirque Peak
The first photo below shows us at Helen Lake
with Cirque Peak in the background. Getting to Helen Lake
was quite simple, but proceeding on to Cirque Peak
with its expansive views required much more effort. It was tough slogging
through the scree - especially the really deep stuff in the beginning and then
later the ice and snow covered scree where the climb was much steeper.
Unfortunately we never made it to the top (we got to 9490 ft and the peak was
at 9820 ft) because there was no longer an official trail to follow, it had
become extremely windy, and we were running out of time, so we didn't get to
see the much anticipated 360 degree view. Hiking near the peak was very
intimidating because it was extremely steep, the ferocious wind made it feel
very unsafe, and when you looked up you couldn't see anything but the sky.
