View of Devils Tower from the KOA campground at sunrise. Established in 1906, it has the distinction of being the first National Monument.

Millions of years ago, this tower was a volcanic plug buried deep underground. The vertical striations visible in this photo are hexagon shaped pillars that formed as the lava cooled. The 867 ft tower became visible when the surrounding land eroded.

Li wasn't the only camera buff on the Joyner Ridge Trail taking advantage of the ideal light at sunset - one was even kind enough to take his photo.

Maureen enjoys her walk around Devils Tower - much less effort than the thousands of people who climb it every year!
