One gets a
sense of history standing next to the USS Nautilus, the world's first nuclear
powered submarine. She was also the first vessel to sail under the icecap at
the North Pole.

Mystic Seaport
harbors a large number of beautifully restored historic ships. The shipyard
used for restoration is also open to visitors.

Hundreds of
years ago cod fishing was a major industry here. The cod was salted and dried
on racks (as shown in photo), then stored for future consumption or exported
to other countries.

Joseph Conrad
- the steel hulled training ship for the Denmark navy. The ship collided
with another vessel in 1905, killing 22 cadets. Afterwards, the ship was
salvaged and sold.
