Barrett Spur
Our last Mt. Hood hike to
Barrett Spur offered more fine views. It was extremely windy above tree line,
but there was a saddle that offered protection and a close-up view of Ladd
Glacier.
We also had
another view of the same volcanoes that were seen from Yocum Ridge (again from
left to right) Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Rainer (about 100 miles away), and Mt.
Adams.
The rockpiles
on these hikes are always easier and faster coming back down than they are
going up!
We tackled
another hike afterwards which we weren’t able to do on the day that it rained.
The first two falls were near the beginning of the trail and easier to reach.
That’s Horsetail Falls in the photo on the left and us standing under Upper
Horsetail Falls (also known as Ponytail Falls) in the photo on the right.
Proceeding
past these falls was somewhat disappointing because the trail became more
difficult with minimal reward. It was long, steep, and narrow and Triple Falls,
where the hiked ended, wasn’t that impressive.
