Coldwater Peak
The weather was better on our
second day at Mt. St. Helens, there were still some clouds but no rain, so we
headed to Coldwater Peak for some mountain top vistas. The beginning of the
hike provided us with our first unobscured view of Mt. St. Helens, but it
wasn’t long before the clouds swooped in again as we continued up the trail.
Fog also
settled in the higher up we got, but we were still able to see the singed
remains of the trees that were blow down by the erruption and then washed into
St. Helens Lake.
This view of St
Helens Lake features Spirit Lake in the background.
The peak had a 360 view and we could
see the visitor center where the hike started – see the white rectangle on the
far left of the hilltop in the photo on the right?
This photo
shows how powerful the explosion was as even the most massive trees were
snapped off like twigs.
Harry’s Ridge
offered a panoramic view of Coldwater Peak on the far left, Spirit Lake in the
middle, and a small part of Mt. St. Helens on the far right.
