Mount
Desert Island is the most visited part of Acadia National Park. We walked the Ocean
Path, which as it’s name
implies provided scenic views along the ocean, from Sand Beach to Otter Point.
The water at Sand Beach (pictured below) was too cold for swimming, but there
was a surfer in a wet suit.
Thunder Hole
is the most popular attraction along the path. It’s named from the thunderous sound
the waves make when crashing into the narrow rock formation.
Schoodic Peninsula
The Schoodic
Peninsula is the lesser known more remote part of Acadia National Park and home
to the Schoodic Institute - a former navy base
converted to an educational facility. We walked the short Sundew Trail with
views of the ocean and Mount Desert Island in the background.
