Cape Cod

Despite it’s popularity and close proximity, we had never been to Cape Cod before. So this year, instead of our usual mega hiking vacation, we opted for a leisurely exploration of the Cape and tacked on another visit to Acadia National Park as well.

Cape Cod Canal

Cape Cod is actually an island that was created by this man-made canal. We walked a tiny portion of the 6 mile bike path that runs along it. A vertical lift bridge enables trains to cross without blocking traffic when not in use. The barge was the only ship we saw on the canal that day other than a few recreational boats.

Maureen took the helm of The Renier (a retired US Army Corp of Engineer’s patrol boat) in the canal’s museum.

Hyannis

We stayed in the town of Hyannis during our visit and had homemade ice cream almost every night for dessert!
